The School for Parents WA Inc. (SfP) is an incorporated non-profit organisation, formally established in September 2002 after an informal program had been operating for two years, which aims to enable parents/carers/family members to gain a greater understanding of the disability, which affects their child, and to help them to encourage their child to achieve greater independence. Parents/carers and children must attend the sessions together because they, as key partners, are pivotal to the child’s development and are an essential ingredient in the SfP philosophy. The service aims to provide a comprehensive early intervention that is appropriate to the age (children below the new Kindergarten age), ability and needs of the children.

The program works on educational development, fine and gross motor skills and speech, and leads into life skills of daily living and increased recreational and sporting opportunities, all the while building great self-awareness, confidence and esteem. The program is designed to help parents/carers cope with the stresses and strains of having a child with a disability by teaching them how to lead their child through an adventure, which helps them to explore and actively engage into their social and physical environment.

The School for Parents WA Inc. operates the Parent & Child programs at Carson Street School. View the Brochure – Early Intervention Program or go to the  Parent & Child pages.
