PrincipalRoslyn Hamling
I believe that as a school leader, my primary goal is to ensure that each child is an engaged and successful learner who is happy to come to school. I am committed to supporting staff in delivering high quality learning experiences within a school that is positive, respectful, and supportive. I am also proud to have led the development of our Rainbow Way culture and acknowledge the wonderful work of the whole staff who give so much to ensure our students have the best possible opportunities to achieve their potential in a stimulating and happy environment. My leadership aspiration has always been to provide a school culture that empowers our school community to ‘Help Every Child Shine’. (The Rainbow Way, Carson Street School)

My focus is to foster strong relationships with our families and the school community. No problem is too big or too small, and supporting families with their child’s needs is important to providing the best environment for every child to “shine.” I value educational opportunities that ensure our students have access to the community and is an important step to transfer learning and new skills.

I joined the Carson Street team in 2013 as the Manager Corporate Services. My role encompasses financial, human resources and facilities management. The best part of my role is interacting with our wonderful students. Seeing our students learn and explore, and the joy that this gives them and their families, makes all the hard work worth it.

I have 39 years of experience across all ages (0–12 years), student ability levels and learning areas. I have had the privilege of working at Carson Street School for almost 15 years and my roles have included classroom teacher, specialist program coordinator, curriculum coordinator and committed member of the school leadership team. I worked in the mainstream Primary sector before training at The András Pető Institute, Hungary, graduating with a Diploma in Conductive Education (CE) in 1993. I later undertook a Post Graduate Diploma in Support for Learning. I have shared my expertise through workshops, study days and conferences worldwide as well as providing training for parents, professionals, colleagues and students. I helped develop Conductive Education in Finland, Sweden and established the CE high school program in Western Australia. In 2019 I collaborated with the National Institute for Conductive Education, UK, to deliver the first Multi-Disciplinary Conductor training in the southern hemisphere, resulting in two additional conductors for Carson Street School. I am an avid reader, love travelling and spending time with my family and friends. My dream is to see Conductive Education being available for every student with a physical disability in Western Australia, who wishes to access it.
Student Voice & Literacy Coordinator
Student Voice & Literacy CoordinatorSarah Rowe
I have worked at Carson Street since 2010 and in that time have been lucky enough to work with many amazing students and to hear the important things they have to say, in the many wonderful ways they communicate. As Student Voice Coordinator, there is nothing more important to me than helping a child to make themselves heard. I am proud of establishing our Student Council, Factions, Principal for the Day and our student newsletter, The Rainbow Reporter, to give our students more opportunities to share their voice with everyone. When I was at school, literacy was my absolute favourite subject, and it became the first degree that I completed at university before becoming a teacher. As Literacy Coordinator, I am excited to share the joy of books and reading with our students and to help them see what great writers they are too.

I first started working at Carson St in 2009 and since then my roles have included classroom teacher, Sensory Coordinator, member of the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Team, Reporting to Parents – Special Education Needs (RTP-SEN) coordinator, Team Teach tutor and a member of the school Leadership team. I feel privileged to work in an environment where the students are at the centre of everything we do to ensure they have the most positive school experience and are challenged to develop skills for a lifetime. I enjoy coming to work every day knowing the students are thriving in a supportive environment and are surrounded by all the staff cheering them on to succeed in all that they do.

Carson Street is an extraordinary school community that is committed to values that support professional excellence, co-operation and respect.
