PERCEPTUAL MOTOR PROGRAM (PMP)

The Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) is designed to focus on the development of proprioceptive and vestibular skills, which includes the development of eye/hand and eye/foot coordination, fitness, balance, locomotion and eye-tracking skills. Proprioception is knowing where our body is in space and place and allows us to walk through a room without bumping into things and to use our bodies to complete actions such as climbing and crawling. The program incorporates an obstacle course style set-up to include a range of tasks which promote proprioceptive development. Vestibular balance/movement) and heavy work tasks have also been included during the sessions through the use of balance beams, wobble boards, weighted trolleys and medicine balls. Proprioceptive, vestibular and heavy work tasks can all be implemented as self-regulation strategies for students throughout the school day, within their individual classes.
